What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your stylist will start with a quick consultation to talk through your event, your outfit, and the kind of look you're hoping for. Bring along 2-3 inspiration photos of styles you love (and one you definitely don't) so we can get on the same page from the start. We'll assess your hair's length, thickness and texture to make sure the style you've got in mind will work beautifully with what you've got.

From there, we'll section your hair, add light styling product if needed, and often curl or wave sections with tongs to create texture and grip before pinning everything into place. The finished style is secured with pins, grips and a final cloud of strong-yet-flexible hairspray to keep everything looking fresh from ceremony to last dance.

Hair Up Styling works brilliantly for anyone with medium to long hair heading to a wedding, prom, party, or any occasion where you want to look polished and feel confident your hair won't budge. If your hair is on the shorter side, we can often create lovely half-up or pinned-back styles, though full updos may need a bit more length to work with.

This service is ideal if you want a single, finished look on the day—our 45 to 60 minute slot is designed to get you event-ready in one go. For brides or anyone wanting a full trial run of multiple styles, we'd recommend booking a separate, longer bridal consultation appointment so there's plenty of time to experiment and perfect every detail.

Preparing Your Hair

The most important thing: don't wash your hair immediately before your appointment. Hair that's too clean can be slippery and soft, making it harder for pins to grip and styles to hold. Instead, wash your hair 24-48 hours in advance—the night before or that morning is perfect—and let it dry naturally or blow-dry it yourself at home. Avoid heavy oils, serums, or strong-hold sprays, as they can interfere with how the style sets.

On the day, arrive with your hair completely dry and wear a button-up top or something that doesn't need to be pulled over your head, so you can change into your event outfit afterwards without disturbing your beautiful new updo.

Making Your Style Last

Once your hair is up, avoid touching, brushing, or fussing with it—the more you leave it alone, the longer it will hold. If you're caught in rain or humidity, a quick spritz of hairspray can help tame flyaways, but try to keep your style as dry as possible. If your event runs late and you need the style to last overnight, sleep carefully with a silk pillowcase or a loose scarf to protect your work of art. And remember: the better the prep (clean, dry, product-free hair), the longer your updo will stay picture-perfect.
