What to Expect

A root tap is a quick add-on service after your lightening appointment, taking around 30 minutes from start to finish:

• We use a small amount of semi-permanent colour or glaze—no more than 30g—chosen to complement your natural root shade or sit a few tones deeper than your highlights
• The colour is applied just at the root area, blending the freshly lightened hair into a softer, more dimensional finish
• It's processed quickly, then rinsed to reveal brighter blonde with a natural shadow at the root
• The result? No more harsh foil lines, and a much gentler grow-out over the coming weeks

Because the root is intentionally left a touch deeper, your colour looks fresher for longer and regrowth is far less obvious than with traditional all-over lightening.

Keeping It Fresh

Because we use a demi-permanent glaze, your root tap will gradually fade with washing, typically lasting 6–12 weeks depending on your hair type and how often you shampoo:

• Use a sulfate-free, colour-safe shampoo to protect the toner and keep your blonde looking bright
• Limit heat styling where possible, and always use a heat protectant
• Consider adding a deep conditioning or Olaplex treatment to keep lightened hair strong and healthy—our team can recommend the best option for you
• Fine or porous hair can grab toner more strongly at first, but this softens beautifully as it washes out

Regular tap refreshes every couple of months will keep that seamless, natural blonde looking its absolute best.

Root Tap vs Other Techniques
