A Root Melt is a colour service that blends a deeper shade at the roots into your existing colour through the mid-lengths. It’s ideal for softening harsh regrowth lines, adding a lived-in shadow at the root, and making highlights or balayage look more seamless as they grow out.

What a Root Melt service delivers
A Root Melt focuses on the root area and the blend, rather than recolouring the whole head.
- Creates a smooth transition from your natural root into highlights, balayage or lighter ends.
- Softens bright bands and strong lines where colour has grown out.
- Adds depth at the root for a more natural, “lived-in” finish.
- Helps colour grow out more gracefully between appointments.
- Tone is selected to suit your current colour and your goal, from subtle shadow to a more noticeable root.
Root Melt is most useful for grown-out highlights and balayage
A Root Melt works well if your lighter pieces start too close to the scalp, or your regrowth looks stark against blonde or bright colour. It’s also a good option if you want your hair to look blended and dimensional without committing to a full root colour every visit.
How the Root Melt appointment runs (60 minutes)
Your stylist will assess your current colour, regrowth and any banding, then choose a root shade that will melt into your mid-lengths. The colour is applied at the root area and carefully worked down to blur the join, then processed and removed once the blend is right. The aim is a soft gradient rather than a block of colour at the scalp.
Keeping your Root Melt looking fresh between visits
Use colour-safe shampoo and conditioner and keep heat protection in your routine to reduce fading at the root area. If your ends feel a little bright or warm over time, you can maintain the overall look with a toner or gloss alongside your usual colour plan.
Colour usage and additional product
Root Melt pricing can vary with hair length and thickness. If extra colour is needed, additional product is charged in 30g increments.
