Full Head Colour

From £50
90 mins

A Full Head Colour means exactly what it says: colour applied to every strand, from your roots right through to the ends, giving you a beautifully uniform shade all over. Whether you're after grey coverage, a richer version of your natural tone, or a bold new colour entirely, this is the service that delivers complete, even results across shoulder-length hair in around 90 minutes.

More information

What Happens During Your Appointment

Your Full Head Colour starts with a quick chat about what you're hoping to achieve and a look at your hair history — any previous colour, treatments, or texture work all affect how we approach your new shade. Then we get to work:

  • We section your hair (usually into four or more parts) and apply colour methodically, starting at the roots and working through to the ends in fine sections
  • Every strand gets full saturation, so you won't end up with patchy or uneven areas
  • The colour processes according to the manufacturer's timing — usually around 20–40 minutes depending on the formula and your goal
  • After a thorough rinse, we shampoo and condition with colour-safe products, then blow-dry and style

For shoulder-length hair, the whole appointment typically takes about 90 minutes, though thicker or longer hair might need a bit more time.

What Results to Expect

A Full Head Colour gives you a solid, even shade from root to tip — think rich chocolate brown, warm copper, deep burgundy, or whatever tone you choose. It's a single, uniform colour rather than the multi-tonal effect you'd get from highlights or balayage.

This service is brilliant for:

  • Complete grey coverage with permanent colour that lasts
  • Darkening your natural shade or shifting tone (warmer, cooler, richer)
  • Refreshing faded colour across your whole head
  • Creating a clean base before adding highlights or balayage later

What it won't do is lighten your hair several shades on its own — if you want to go significantly lighter, we'd need a separate lightening process first. Your stylist will talk you through what's achievable in one session during your consultation.

Looking After Your New Colour

All-over colour is pretty low-maintenance day-to-day, but a bit of care keeps it looking fresh:

  • Switch to sulfate-free or colour-safe shampoo and conditioner — they're gentler and won't strip your colour as quickly
  • Avoid really hot water when you wash your hair (lukewarm is kinder to colour)
  • Use a heat protectant spray before blow-drying or straightening
  • A weekly deep conditioning treatment keeps coloured hair soft and shiny, especially on the mid-lengths and ends

You'll see root regrowth as your natural colour grows through, usually noticeable after 4–8 weeks depending on how different your new shade is from your natural tone. A root touch-up (which only colours the new growth) is quicker and keeps your colour looking seamless.

Choosing the Right Formula

We work with Keune colours (we're a Keune Ambassador salon), and we'll recommend the best type of colour for your goals:

  • Permanent colour gives the strongest grey coverage and longest-lasting results — it won't wash out, though it will fade slightly over time
  • Demi-permanent colour is gentler, gradually fades, and gives a softer grow-out if you're not ready for a big commitment
  • Semi-permanent colour is the most temporary option, great for trying a tone before going permanent

Your hair's condition and history matter too — if your mid-lengths and ends are porous or previously coloured, we might adjust the formula or use a different product through those areas to avoid them grabbing too dark. It's all about getting you an even, beautiful result that suits your hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Full Head Colour appointment take?
For shoulder-length hair, a Full Head Colour typically takes around 90 minutes from start to finish, including consultation, application, processing, rinsing, and blow-dry. Thicker or longer hair may need a little extra time.
How much does a Full Head Colour cost?
A Full Head Colour at Park Row starts from £50. The exact price may vary depending on your hair length, thickness, and the specific formula or additional treatments needed.
How is a Full Head Colour different from highlights?
A Full Head Colour applies one uniform shade across all your hair from roots to ends, giving even, solid coverage. Highlights add lighter strands through sections of your hair for a multi-tonal, dimensional effect rather than one all-over colour.
Will a Full Head Colour lighten my hair?
A standard single-process Full Head Colour won't significantly lighten your natural hair on its own. If you want to go much lighter, you'll need a separate lightening or bleaching process first, which your stylist can discuss with you.
How long does Full Head Colour last?
Permanent colour doesn't wash out, but it will fade slightly over time and your roots will grow through. Most clients need a root touch-up every 4–8 weeks, depending on how fast their hair grows and the contrast between their natural and coloured shade.
Can I get a Full Head Colour if I have previously coloured hair?
Yes, but your stylist will need to know your colour history during the consultation. Previously coloured or porous hair may need an adjusted formula or a different product on the mid-lengths and ends to avoid uneven results.
Does Full Head Colour cover grey hair completely?
Yes, permanent Full Head Colour is excellent for complete grey coverage. Your stylist will choose a formula that provides strong, even coverage across all your grey and ensures it blends seamlessly with the rest of your hair.
What should I do to prepare for my Full Head Colour appointment?
Come with dry, unwashed hair (a day or two of natural oils helps protect your scalp). Bring any reference photos of your desired shade, and be ready to chat about your hair history — previous colour, treatments, or chemical processes all affect the result.
How do I look after my hair after a Full Head Colour?
Use sulfate-free, colour-safe shampoo and conditioner, avoid very hot water, and apply heat protectant before styling. A weekly deep conditioning treatment will keep your colour looking vibrant and your hair feeling soft and healthy.
Can I book a consultation before committing to a Full Head Colour?
Absolutely. We offer free 15-minute consultations for new clients, so you can chat with a stylist, discuss your goals, and get expert advice on what's achievable before you book your colour appointment.
