Getting your lad's hair cut doesn't have to be a drama. Our stylists are brilliant with school-age boys, creating smart, manageable styles that actually stay put through PE, playtime, and everything in between. Whether he's after a tidy crop for school or something a bit more textured, we'll chat through what works and deliver a cut that makes mornings easier for everyone.

What to Expect
We keep things relaxed and straightforward. Your appointment will include:
- A quick chat about length, style, and any school rules (no surprise mohawks, promise)
- Clippers on the back and sides to create clean fades or neat trims, blended into longer hair on top
- Scissor work for the top section, fringe, and any layering or texture
- Careful detailing around the ears and neckline for a tidy finish
- A look in the mirror and any final tweaks before he hops down
Our team—including Lynzie, Beckie, and Alicia—regularly work with children and know how to keep fidgeting to a minimum and cooperation high. We explain what we're doing as we go, and we're always happy to adjust if your child's a bit nervous about clippers or prefers things done in a certain order.
Popular Styles for This Age
Boys between 6 and 12 tend to go for styles that are easy to manage but still look sharp. Common favourites include:
- Fades (skin, low, or mid) with a textured or spiky top
- Short back and sides with length left on top for styling
- Textured crops that work with natural growth patterns and cowlicks
- Longer, surfer-style cuts for boys with wavy or thicker hair
- Undercuts for a bit more edge (where school rules allow)
We'll talk through what suits your child's hair type—straight, wavy, curly, thick, or fine—and how much daily styling you're up for at home. Bring a reference photo if it helps, or just describe what you're after and we'll take it from there.
Keeping It Looking Good
Aftercare is straightforward. Wash with a gentle shampoo, towel-dry, and style with fingers or a quick brush. For textured or spiky looks, a small blob of child-friendly paste or pomade does the job—nothing heavy or sticky.
Maintenance timing depends on the cut:
- Shorter clipper styles (fades, tight crops) usually need a trim every 4-6 weeks to stay sharp
- Longer styles can stretch to 6-8 weeks between visits
We'll let you know what to expect based on the cut we've done, and you can book ahead in Brighouse to keep things regular. If your lad's hair grows fast or you want it looking fresh for school photos, err on the shorter side for booking intervals.
