Money Piece Highlights

From £25
60 mins

Money piece highlights are all about maximum impact with minimum fuss. Using just a few carefully placed foils around your front hairline, we create bright, face-framing pieces that catch the light and lift your whole look. It's quicker than a full head of highlights but gives you that fresh, sun-kissed brightness exactly where you notice it most — around your face.

More information

What happens during your appointment

The process is straightforward and focused:

  • We section out the front hairline area where your hair naturally frames your face
  • Using 3-5 foils, we apply lightener to fine sections following your hairline shape
  • The foils process for the time needed to lift your hair to the desired brightness (we check regularly)
  • After rinsing, we apply a toner or gloss to refine the shade and add shine
  • Finally, we style your hair so you can see the full effect

Because we're only working on a small area, the whole service takes around an hour. Our stylists — Janet, Lynzie, Beckie, Alicia, Jess and Imogen — are all trained in precise foiling techniques, and we use Keune colour and Olaplex treatments to keep your hair in great condition throughout.

Who it suits best

Money piece highlights work beautifully on all hair colours and lengths. The effect is:

  • Subtle and soft on lighter bases (think buttery blonde tones blending into your natural colour)
  • Bold and striking on darker hair (high-contrast face-framing that really pops)
  • Brilliant for anyone who wants a low-commitment colour refresh between bigger appointments
  • Perfect if you wear your hair up often — the brightness around your hairline enhances ponytails and updos

During your free 15-minute consultation, we'll chat about how bold or natural you want the effect, how you usually part your hair (centre or side makes a difference!), and what tone will suit your skin and style. If you're after more all-over dimension, we can also combine money pieces with balayage or a half-head of highlights for a complete look.

Keeping your highlights fresh

Because the lightener is focused right at your hairline, a little aftercare goes a long way:

  • Use a colour-safe, sulfate-free shampoo to protect the tone (we stock Keune ranges in salon)
  • Regular conditioning or a weekly mask keeps the hair soft and glossy
  • Heat protection before styling prevents dryness and colour fade
  • Toners can fade over a few weeks with washing and sun, so you might want a quick toner refresh between colour appointments to keep the brightness balanced

Your stylist will talk you through exactly what your hair needs based on its condition and how light we've taken it. And if you're planning a bigger colour change down the line, money pieces are a great way to test the waters and see how you feel with brighter hair around your face before committing to a full head.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do money piece highlights cost?
Money piece highlights start from £25. The final price depends on your hair length, thickness, and whether you need additional toning or treatments. We'll confirm the cost during your consultation.
How long does the appointment take?
Around 60 minutes from start to finish, including application, processing, rinsing, toning and styling. Because we're only using a few foils at the front, it's much quicker than a full head of highlights.
What's the difference between money piece highlights and a full head?
Money pieces use just 3-5 foils around your front hairline for face-framing brightness, while a full head covers your whole head. Money pieces are faster, more affordable, and perfect for a quick refresh between bigger colour services.
Will money piece highlights damage my hair?
We use high-quality Keune lightener and can add Olaplex to protect your hair during the process. Because we're only lightening a small section, the overall impact on your hair is minimal. Your stylist will assess your hair's condition during consultation.
How often do I need to get them done?
It depends on how quickly your hair grows and how noticeable you find regrowth. Many clients refresh their money pieces every 8-12 weeks, or book a toner touch-up between larger colour appointments to keep the brightness looking fresh.
Can I get money piece highlights if I have dark hair?
Absolutely! Money pieces look stunning on dark hair and create a bold, high-contrast frame around your face. Depending on how dark your hair is, we might need a bit more processing time or a gentler lift to protect your hair's condition.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Just come with your hair as normal — no need to wash it beforehand. If you have any scalp sensitivity or have had previous colour treatments, let us know when you book so we can plan accordingly.
What aftercare products do I need?
A colour-safe, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner are essential to protect the tone and keep your hair healthy. We stock Keune ranges in the salon and can recommend the best products for your hair type during your appointment.
Can I combine money pieces with other colour services?
Yes! Money pieces work brilliantly alongside balayage, a half head of highlights, or an all-over toner. We can create a full, dimensional look with the money piece as the brightest, most face-framing element. Chat to your stylist about what you're after.
Will the highlights look obvious as they grow out?
We place the foils carefully and can feather the lightener to create a soft blend, so regrowth is usually quite subtle. Choosing a tone closer to your natural base also helps. If you prefer very low maintenance, your stylist can advise on the best placement and shade for seamless grow-out.
