Planning bridal hair is one of the most enjoyable parts of getting married, and one of the easiest parts to leave too late. A wedding hair look that genuinely suits you, sits well with your dress, and holds for fourteen hours of photographs and dancing takes a bit of planning. The bigger the gap between booking and the wedding day, the more options you have.

Park Row is a Brighouse salon and we do bridal hair every wedding season for brides across Brighouse and the surrounding areas, including Halifax, Calderdale, Kirklees, and the wider West Yorkshire region. This guide explains when to start, what to expect at a trial, how to choose a look that suits you, and how to prepare your hair in the months leading up to the big day.

## When to start planning your bridal hair

Twelve months out is ideal, six months is comfortable, three months is workable if your hair is already in good condition. The reason to start early is not the wedding day appointment itself, that is one slot in our diary. The reason is everything that happens before the trial: condition work, colour planning, and the time to test a look properly.

If you want your hair to be longer, thicker, or in better condition than it is right now, you need months, not weeks. Even a single bond strengthening treatment and a regular trim schedule will leave your hair noticeably improved by the day, but only if you start in time.

We recommend booking your wedding day slot as soon as you know the date, then booking your trial roughly six to eight weeks before the wedding. That gives you time to adjust the plan if anything is not quite right at the trial, without it being so far ahead that you forget what was agreed.

## Your bridal hair trial

The trial is the part that turns a vague idea into a confident plan. Bring photos of looks you like, photos of your dress if you have them, any hair accessories you plan to wear, and a sense of how you usually wear your hair so we can match the look to you rather than to a Pinterest board.

We will talk through your dress neckline, your veil if you are wearing one, the time of year, and what you want to feel like on the day. From there we will style the hair the way we plan to on the wedding day, take photos at the end so you can see it from every angle, and make notes on exactly what we did, including products and timings.

If anything is not quite right at the trial, we will adjust. Hair that is too soft can be set firmer, hair that feels too formal can be loosened, an updo can become a half up, a half up can become a soft down. The trial is the time to be honest about what is and is not working, so the wedding morning is calm rather than a redo.

For more on what happens at a bridal hair trial in detail, our follow up guide to [what to expect at your bridal hair trial](https://parkrowhairandbeauty.com/blog/bridal-hair-trial-what-to-expect) walks through the process step by step.

## Choosing a look that suits you

The best bridal looks are the ones that look like you, slightly elevated. If you almost never wear your hair up, an updo on your wedding day will feel like dressing up as someone else. If you live in a ponytail, a soft chignon will feel natural and put together rather than fussy.

A few practical things to weigh up. A high updo balances a dress with a low back or fitted bodice. Hair down or half up balances a dress with detail at the neckline or shoulders. A veil pinned high suits an updo, a veil from the crown or lower suits hair down or half up. Curls and waves photograph more softly than sleek styles, but they also need more product and more setting time, so plan a little extra into the morning.

If you are colouring your hair before the wedding, plan it carefully. A fresh colour two to three weeks before the day looks best on camera, freshly toned without being too sharp. For balayage in particular, see our guide to [balayage in Halifax, what it is, how it works, and what it costs](https://parkrowhairandbeauty.com/blog/balayage-halifax) for timing and colour planning.

## Preparing your hair in the months leading up

The single best thing you can do for your bridal hair is treat it well in the six months before. Wash less often, use a sulphate free shampoo, use a weekly mask, and keep the heat down where you can. Many of our brides use the Keune Care Vital Nutrition range during the run up because it adds moisture without softening the hair, which means it still holds a style.

If you are colouring, we use Keune Care Color Brillianz on every colour client, and it makes a noticeable difference to how the colour photographs on the day. For more on protecting colour between appointments, see [how to care for coloured hair between appointments](https://parkrowhairandbeauty.com/blog/how-to-care-for-coloured-hair).

A trim every six to eight weeks in the lead up keeps the ends sharp without losing length. Avoid trying new harsh treatments, dramatic colour changes, or new products in the last month, you want your hair behaving predictably on the day.

## On the wedding day

Most brides have their hair done first, before make up, because hair takes the longest and is least likely to be disturbed by what comes after. We will agree the timing at the trial and build in a buffer so you are not rushed.

Bring the hair accessories you plan to wear so we can fit them in as we go, rather than at the end. Bring a couple of photos from the trial as a reference. Eat breakfast before we start. The morning of your wedding is not the day to be hungry while someone holds a flat iron near your hairline.

You can see the full bridal hair service options on our [bridal hair page](https://parkrowhairandbeauty.com/service-categories/bridal-hair).

## Bring your bridal party with you

For wedding parties of three or more, Park Row has a private room we can allocate to you for the morning, so you have your own space to get ready without the regular salon morning around you. Fizz and bacon butties are included, because the wedding morning is not the morning to be standing in a queue for coffee or skipping breakfast.

It is one of those small things that makes the morning feel like part of the celebration rather than a rushed salon visit. If you would like to bring your bridesmaids, your mum, or anyone else from the wedding party, mention it at your consultation and we will plan the timings and the room together.

## Frequently asked questions

### How far in advance should I book bridal hair in Brighouse?

Twelve months ahead is ideal, six months is comfortable, three months is workable. The wedding day slot itself is one appointment, but the trial, any colour work, and condition treatments need time to plan properly. Saturday slots in summer go quickly, so book the date as soon as you know it.

### Do I need a bridal hair trial?

We strongly recommend one. The trial is where a vague idea becomes a confirmed plan, with photos and notes we can repeat exactly on the day. It also gives you time to adjust the look if anything is not quite right, without the pressure of the wedding morning.

### How much does bridal hair cost in Brighouse?

Bridal hair pricing depends on whether it is for the bride alone, the bridal party, hair only, or hair and a trial. You can see the current price brackets on our hairdressing price list, and we will quote a fixed price after your consultation so you know exactly what you are paying.

### Can you come to me on the wedding day?

Many brides prefer to come into the salon on the morning, but we can discuss on site styling depending on your venue and timing. Bring it up at your trial and we will plan the logistics around your day.

### Can the bridal party get ready at the salon together?

Yes, for parties of three or more we have a private room we can allocate to you for the morning, with fizz and bacon butties included. It is a quieter, more relaxed space than the main salon floor, and it works particularly well if you want the bride, bridesmaids, and mums all getting ready in one place.

### Should I colour my hair before the wedding?

If you colour your hair anyway, yes, a fresh colour two to three weeks before the wedding photographs best. If you are thinking of changing your colour for the wedding, plan it earlier, ideally three to six months out, so any adjustments can be made before the day.
